CGS – SUMPTUOUS SUMMER Exhibition at Buckenham Galleries, Southwold

After a successful 25th anniversary celebration year in 2022, the Contemporary Glass Society CGS is delighted to be continuing with a new series of exhibitions in 2023. CGS is collaborating with Buckenham Galleries in Southwold, Suffolk for the first time to present the SUMPTUOUS SUMMER exhibition.

CGS is the UK’s foremost organisation for supporting established artists, nurturing up-and- coming makers and promoting contemporary glass in the wider art world. Situated in the heart of the lovely seaside town of Southwold, Buckenham Galleries is an independent fine art gallery and is one of East Anglia's leading contemporary art galleries. This is a partnership made in Heaven!

This exhibition celebrates the warmth and sensuous pleasure of a SUMPTUOUS SUMMER. The artists have had the opportunity to explore anything that relates to that glorious season that extends from the June solstice through to the September equinox. Exhibiting a wide range of contemporary glass art, the show features a mix of wall pieces as well as plinth based work. All the work is for sale and covers a wide range of prices, making contemporary glass attainable to all!

Twenty-nine lucky but hugely talented artists have been chosen across a wide spectrum of techniques and styles demonstrating the versatility of this fascinating material. The selection was made by the Gallery owners and the internationally renowned glass artist, David Reekie, whose studio is located not far away in Norfolk.

The Artists; Alison Allum, Andreya Bennett, Beverley Bunn, Teresa Chlapowski, Jeanette Cook, Julie Anne Denton, Magda Gay, Hannah Gibson, Helen Hancock, Catherine Hough, Ingrid Hunter, Susan Kinley, Jane Littlefield, Marian Monas, Jackie Monk, Emmy Palmer, Susan Purser Hope, Lesley Pyke, Ana Laura Quintana, Morag Reekie, Annie Ross, Annica Sandström with David Kaplan, Katrina Shearlaw, Cathryn Shilling, Phillipa Silcock, Kathryn Sumroy, Nancy Sutcliffe, Frans Wesselman and Maria Zulueta.

There will be a Preview afternoon on Saturday, 3rd June at 2pm enabling visitors to the Gallery and potential customers to see the array of glorious glass close up and to meet the artists and find out more about their work and techniques. The SUMPTUOUS SUMMER exhibition a riot of colour, sparkle and sunshine – is a dazzling opportunity not to be missed!
