WORKs BY COMMISSION

Enlightened

“Enlightened” is a ceiling mounted, stained glass work commissioned privately by a lifelong friend and ally. The sculpture hangs centrally in a dining rotunda, with its panels responding gently and positively to both the constant changes in light and the movement of people. I wanted to create a piece that embodied her ability to adapt to the many challenges of a life, whilst remaining an enlightened force for so many others.

The Covenant

“The Covenant” is a ceiling mounted, glass sculpture representing the end of the story of Noah and the Ark. It was commissioned by Maidenhead Synagogue for its new entrance, and was unveiled by HRH Prince Edward.  The work is based on the text in Chapter 9 of Genesis where, after the flood’s destruction, God placed a rainbow in the midst of the clouds.

I have placed My rainbow in the sky, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Myself and the earth - Genesis Ch.9 v.13

The story of Noah and the Ark is one of the first to capture children’s imagination, and the rainbow is a symbol they can immediately relate to as positive, vibrant and welcoming. As importantly, the scriptural root of the work provides rich opportunity for deeper Torah study and debate. The progressive nature of this synagogue is reflected in the use of a contemporary six colour rainbow, similar to that used by the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
